Thinking bioregionally
Sat, 11/04/2009 - 00:53 — Mark Burton
It could perhaps be seen as the application of permaculture thinking on a bioregional basis - a kind of stacking of all the zones maybe. I'd particularly welcome the comments of permaculturists - I appreciate that this does go wider than the usual focus of PC, but this is because the challenge is urgent and enormous. As Bill Mollison said some 20 years ago in one of his films - "the environment is going critical on us'. Well now it certainly is! You can comment here or on the GreenDealManchester site itself. There is also an invitation to get involved. I look forward to hearing from you. It would be great to get comments on the discussion paper and also ideas for how to take things forward. Added 22 June: There is now a facebook site for the project, and the pamphlet is available in printed form - from me or from the Lulu site. And don't forget to comment on RS 2010 the 'official' regional development strategy consultation principles and issues paper - they talk about sustainability, peak oil and climate but still have a fetish for growth. Added 29 July 2009 a further major article is on the site - a critique of mainstream sustainability politics (e.g. NEF, SDS) Sustainability: utopian and scientific. (Thanks Freddy Engels)
