A workshop all about Aquaponics - the art of growing fish and vegetables together in perfect synergy.
What to expect:
We'll start with an intro to Aquaponics, why you use it, some of the advantages and disadvantages and the different types and sizes of systems you can build.
Then we'll go and tour our new 14'x28' Aquaponic Polytunnel so you can see a large system in operation, then back into the house for food and conversation.
For more background info you can go to http://traffordecohouse.wordpress.com/category/aquaponics/ for the blow-by-blow history of our Aquaponics Project, or to http://traffordecohouse.wordpress.com/what-is-aquaponics/ for a basic introduction.
A few notices:
- We'll spend a bit of time outside, so it may be cold. You shouldn't get too wet as we'll be inside the polytunnel, but the path can be muddy.
- Fish are an integral part of this system, so it is not particularly vegan-friendly. However, I will be discussing fish-free options and the use of non-edible fish.
Location
- Trafford Eco-House, 107 Clough Ave, Sale, M33 4HT
- Map
Public transport options are bus or tram:
- Buses 263 & 41 are the primary ones. (The 263 stops near Leaf Street for those of you coming from there) The stop you want to get off at is "Washway Road / The Drive" at a parade of shops.
- The closest tram stop is Timperley - about a 15 min walk away.
- We do have some secure cycle parking too.
What to bring:
- Following the structure of Manchester Permaculture Network meetings, the workshop will include food and eating, and lots of it! Please bring a dish to share (about the quantity that you would eat)
Cost & Booking details:
- It's free
- It'd be great if you can let us know you're coming in advance so that we know how many to expect - Please email andrew[at]traffordecohouse.com
Another session, perhaps?
Would you please consider offering another session of this workshop, preferably during the day at the weekend? We live on the edge of Greater Manchester, and public transport is pretty difficult in the evening. Thanks. I've been following your blog and the aquaponics setup is very interesting!
Another session is possible
Don't worry if you can't make it to this session - just email me and we'll work out another time. If enough people are interested we'll do a second session - otherwise you can get a personal tour
Andrew
